Natural Tick repellents

Here are a couple of links on using geranium oil as a tick repellent.  It needs to be the Pelargonium capitatum x radens variety.  One of the attendees who came to Space to Emerge last year used the spray mix recommended in the second article.

You can also make up your own repellent. This recipe has come from one of our Space to Emerge attendees who is not a registered herbalist but has been using herbal remedies for years:

Some of the essential oils are: clove, cinnamon, oregano, rosemary, frankincense, vetiver, thyme (thyme linalool c.t. for children), rose geranium (the variety needed against ticks is pelargonium capitatum x radens)

Blend: 40 drops of blended oils with 4oz of carrier oil (not vegetable!)

Spritz: 8oz distilled water with 2 Tbs witch hazel or vodka and 10-30 drops of rose geranium (or a blend of oils)

Natural Tick cures

1 drop of thyme on tick will make it drop off (or soak a cotton bud with oil and hold on tick for 1 minute before pulling off with a tweezer), then 1 drop of neat clove, or lavender every 5 minutes to a total of 10 to avoid infection and reduce pain and swelling
