What was on at our 2017 Event
We had a whole range of things to do over the weekend, from wild weed medicine to singing, storytelling to dance.
Here is a list of the activities we enjoyed together during our 2017 Space to Emerge retreat.
We are currently working on the 2018 schedule and aim to release details over the coming weeks.
Spheres of Sound with Liz Whittall
Spheres of Sound was a powerful meditative experience and included the Harp, Gongs, Flutes, Drums, Singing Bowls and other Healing instruments.
In this workshop we explored our connections with wildness. What that meant for you, what that meant for the planet. How do we feel into and express our wildness?
We started off with a Shamanic Journey to connect with a wild creature, being, tree, plant, rock, river, or whatever shows up and then brought this through into the Middle World with mask making.
Wild Voices with Amy Boud
How does it feel to sing and make music from our authentic wild selves? How can we tap into the music and rhythm of the more than human world?
We explored these questions in a fun and creative workshop...playing with the sounds we made with our voices and bodies, tuning into the sounds of the world around us, and singing outside in different locations with, and to, the other beings that inhabit the land.
Sufi Whirling with Gulcin Bulut
Sufi whirling is a physically active mediation which originated among Sufis, and is still practiced by the Mevlevi Dervishes. It is a sacred dance performed within the Sema, or worship ceremony, through which whirlers aim to reach the source of all perfection.
Weeds and Wild Medicine Workshop with Edwina Hodkinson
During this workshop Edwina led a herb walk, identifying, learning about and exploring local medicinal plants and how to use them for healing.
Plants were harvested to make a salve that could be taken home.
Emerging from the Lake with Lorna Smithers
Through a combination of meditation and creative writing we explored the depths of Windermere, where the giants, monsters, water deities and otherworldly treasures reside, seeing what emergesd and we discussed how our insights can help us face today’s challenges.
The Labyrinth and the Evolving Soul with Elizabeth Clarke
When we walk the labyrinth amongst the bluebells, the mysterious winding path becomes a metaphor for our spiritual journey.
Dance your Inner Deva with Anne Kingston
We explored the beautiful, sensual movements of Middle Eastern dance and let the music feed our souls and touch your hearts.
Introduction to Runes with Linda Sever
This introduction to runes showed people how to use runes in all areas of their lives and all participants made and took away a basic rune starter set from this workshop.
The Gods & the Goddesses of the Solar System with Vicky Allen
We enjoyed a voyage across the solar system, and with each step we took we traversed several million miles.
We started at the sun and visited each planet in turn, together with their moons, and learnt how our recent understanding of these heavenly bodies intertwines with the stories of the gods and goddesses associated with them.
Trance Drumming with Jason Smalley
It was time to get tribal and spend an hour of pure drumming in the sacred Yew Tree Grove.
Allowing ourselves to drift into a trance state with the repetitive beat of the drum.
Introduction to Shamanism with Nicola Smalley
This session was perfect for those who were new to shamanism, or who wanted to go over the basics again and ease themselves into the weekend.
We touched on the history of shamanism and what it is, before going on a shamanic journey to explore the other Worlds.
Dreamcatcher Crafting with Morrigan Rheged
This workshop was great for those who fancied some creative crafting time out during the weekend.
Earth Chants with Nicola Smalley
We hid away by the Earth Mother altar and sang beautiful songs together.
We learnt some new chants and brought along favourites to share.
Deep Nature Connection with Jason Smalley
One of the core principles of authentic shamanic practice is working towards a deep connection with nature.
During this workshop we took time out to seek the wisdom and guidance that nature around us so freely offers if only we learn to listen.
